Palmo recently teamed up with Moreau to carry a batch of their remade Carhartt Tool Bags. Each bag is made by hand from Carhartt duck canvas work pants. We took some time to get to know more about Moreau:
Some insight from the brand itself - An ever-evolving design house handmade in Toronto, Ontario by designer Lukas Moreau Nurse, Moreau operates on core principles of sustainability and natural materials. Lukas creates items that challenge the average consumer, focusing on the art of textiles, traditional and historical silhouettes. As a member of the fashion industry for some time now, Nurse finds motivation for his work from the love of his trade. As a boy he always loved working with his hands and this inevitably led him into creating.
“I have pretty much taught myself everything I know about constructing a garment, pattern making and textiles. So everything I make is extremely personal and love is poured into every piece.”
Similar to Palmo Goods, Moreau mixes old with old and old with new, drawing inspiration from the world around him - the past, the present and human necessity. Nurse credits his resourcefulness and creativity to the limited menswear options in his realm of the industry which is extremely apparent in his sourcing for Moreau. Deceptively simple, Nurse looks for materials that are faded and discoloured, softened and worn, with natural rips and distressing and with any luck the names and dates of previous owners.
“Worn-in textiles will always be a part of my brand! They truly carry the most character.”
Currently, Nurse is focusing on writing the next chapter of Moreau. With four ongoing projects - heavily based on vintage textiles and ancient techniques - Nurse attempts to share his voice through the use of fabric while keeping his silhouettes traditional and simple. When asked what three words best describe Moreau as a brand he said:
“Repurpose, Traditional, Personal”
And when asked about how he spends his free time, he had one word:
